We are a loving, diverse church family joined together by common purposes:
  • to grow in the Spirit
  • to serve in the footsteps of Christ
  • to worship God
To support our church's mission, we have established the following church committees. We encourage every member to play an active role in contributing to our overall church mission!

Leadership Mission Statements

building & Grounds committee
Our mission is to:  Provide and maintain a place of worship and community inviting to all.

The committee is responsible for the general upkeep and oversight of the Church and Manse properties.  We work with the church's custodians to ensure safe, clean, and functioning facilities.  Keeping a list of projects to be completed as well as making necessary updates and repairs as needed.

Our mission is to guide our congregation to lead a life of purpose, service and faithfulness, nurturing their spiritual growth so they may live a life pleasing to God.
  • Christian Education aims to give all members of our congregation the opportunity to grow in their understanding of the Bible and the teachings of Jesus.  Educating our members and youth about the skills and values of Christ, helps us grow as faithful disciples of Christ.
  • Sunday School, Confirmation Class and Bible studies are designed to teach students about God, the Bible and to deepen their understanding of scripture.
  • Activities such as Mission Trips, Youth Group, Meals on Wheels, and volunteering at the food pantry provide the congregation with opportunities to put their faith in action, serving others in need, while building relationships with their peers.
  • Annually hosted events such as VBS and 30-Hour Famine teach biblical lessons and values by engaging members in a fun hands-on approach to learning.
Our teachers and mentors serve as a primary source for truth and guidance, offering love and support, while helping each other to strengthen their faith and personal walk with God.

Our mission is to nurture spiritual growth, deepen relationships with God and one another, and embody the teachings of Jesus Christ in all aspects of congregational life.

We strive to build strong relationships within our congregation, encouraging fellowship, mutual support, and shared joy.

We welcome all individuals, respecting and celebrating the diversity of God’s creation, and ensuring that every member feels valued and supported.

finance Committee
The First Presbyterian Church of Fairbury's Finance Committee plays a vital role in managing our church's financial resources.

Its responsibilities include budgeting, financial reporting, stewardship, and ensuring the church's financial health.

This committee helps our church plan, manage, and distribute funds effectively to support its mission and ministry.

mission & stewardship Interpretation Committee
The Mission and Stewardship Interpretation Committee is a group that assists the pastor in developing Stewardship as a way of life in the congregation.

Stewardship emphasizes that all people, things and experiences are gifts from God. The committee helps make the congregation aware of opportunities to faithfully serve God and challenge them to use their time and talents in this service.

We organize Kits for College, The Giving Tree, Stewardship Sunday, school supplies for the Prairie Central School District, and themes for Food Pantry Sunday, just to name a few. We also promote the One Great Hour of Sharing and Christmas Joy special offerings.

outreach committee
OUR MISSION:
We exist to share the Word of God with people who might not be part of a worshipping community, creating opportunities for faith and fellowship beyond the church walls.

WHAT WE DO:
  • Praise in the Park & Praise at the Pub
We help to organize these events with Our Praise Team, who performs at these public worship services – either outdoors in Sunken Park or at a local brewery – featuring live music and fellowship.  These free events are open to all and designed for those who might not be comfortable walking into a church.
  • Community Trunk or Treat
Each fall, our committee coordinates with the Christian Ed committee to provide a free, family-friendly Trunk or Treat in the church basement.  Kids visit creatively decorated “tables” in the basement for treats and we add a fun twist: mini pumpkins, paints and stickers that children can decorate on the spot and take home.  This craft activity encourages hands-on creativity and provides a gentle, welcoming introduction to church outreach in a safe, festive environment.
  • Community Christmas Eve Service
Each year, our church hosts a free welcoming Christmas Eve service and gift keepsake ornaments to attendees, spreading holiday joy and a message of hope and Christ’s love.

WHY IT MATTERS:
These ministries provide spiritual outreach whether it’s inside our church or in unconventional spaces.  Our goal is to draw people toward faith through welcoming, intentional community.

worship & administration committee
The Worship and Administration Committee serves as the communication link between the Pastor and the congregation.  The committee helps pass feedback along from the congregation to the Pastor, so the Pastor can better serve the needs of congregation.

The committee functions best when there is feedback from the congregation.  Feedback both positive and negative is welcome and appreciated.  In addition the committee oversees the church employees including the Pastor, office coordinator, and organist/pianist.

The committee works closely with the Pastor as worship plans are made throughout the year.  We help plan special holiday services, as well as any other special worship events that may happen throughout the year.  The Pastor will run different worship ideas through the committee to help gain feedback before implementing the ideas into a worship service.  Our committee is involved in several different aspects of a Sunday worship service.
